A month of getting people
into the code.

A whole month dedicated to helping more people start contributing to Collabora Online. A live call every single day, weekends included. No registration, no talk to prepare, no experience assumed.

Day 5 of 30

What happens on a call

One hour, every day, in the same room. Drop in for any of it.

  1. Get your development environment working

The build is the tallest step in contributing to this project. Bring the error you are stuck on and someone will look at it with you.

  2. Pick an Easy Hack, with a mentor

87 tasks are scoped for a first contribution and most carry code pointers to the area they touch. We will help you choose one that suits what you already know.

  3. Find your way around the codebase

A browser front end in TypeScript over a LibreOffice engine in C++. Ask where something lives instead of reading for a week to find out.

  4. Get help with code review

Changes go through Gerrit rather than pull requests. We will walk you through your first push, and through the comments when they come back.

  5. Meet the people

The names on the commits are in the call. That is most of what a community is.

How to join

  1. Open the link. meet.jit.si/COOLFest, in a browser. Nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.
  2. Turn up at 12:30 UTC. That is 14:30 in Central Europe and 18:00 in India.
  3. Say hello. Tell us what you want to do, or say you are only listening. Both are welcome.

Cannot make the time? The other community calls run every week, the forum is always open, and the Easy Hacks are not going anywhere.

The next seven days

Every call on the calendar, in your own timezone.

Come with something in mind, or come empty-handed

Either works. If you would rather arrive with a target, these are the three doors that need the least setup.

Come join us, learn something new, and maybe make your first contribution.
